Y8 has been investigating about the chemical reaction that takes place when an effervescent tablet dissolves in water.
Many oral medications come in the form of effervescent tablets. When the tablet is introduced into the glass of water, bubbles are formed and this new product is the evidence that a chemical reaction is happening.
In this activity, students investigated the effect that changing the temperature or breaking an effervescent tablet into smaller pieces has on chemical reaction rates. Students formulated their hypothesis, predicted the results, planned the experiments taking into account the independent, dependent and control variables, did the experiment at home and subsequently interpreted and analysed their results.
Finally, the students wrote down a final report which included the main points of their investigation.
